INT. JORDAN’S ROOM. DAY.
JORDAN sits up slowly.
JORDAN
Oh, for f-!
JORDAN walks to the bathroom, takes his boxers off and posts them through the bathroom window, leaving them to hang. There’s a knock at the door. The door opens.
MULL
J-Dog, Kate’s here, you up?
JORDAN
Yeah Mull, be right down!
JORDAN, stood naked in the bathroom, worries about what to wear as he goes down, realising he’s going to be seen by KATE one way or another when he leaves the bathroom. Quickly thinking, he grabs a dirty white towel and dips his head in cold water.
KATE
Jordan, you there kidda!?
JORDAN
(walking downstairs)
Yeah, was just in the shower.
KATE
Getting ready to go?
JORDAN
Yeah, just give me two minutes? Go chill in the living room? Mull won’t bite.
MULL walks in.
MULL
Much!
KATE
What?

I have been doing some more work on my script, I will post up a draft of the first page shortly.

Script work.

I've been working on my script and have started to make a bit more progress on my project. I'll post the script up here shortly, when I get a slight bit more work done.

References - The Graduate.

I will be using certain ideas from the film 'The Graduate' to show how 'boring' Jordan's life is.
One of which is at the very beginning of the film where Dustin Hoffman's character is shown close up, however, his face is to a side to show he's a little off in life, he doesn't quite know what he wants just yet - similar to Jordan.

Another idea I will be using is the shot where Hoffman's character is on the escalator and his character goes from one side of the screen to te other, then the shot changes to a view of his briefcase, showing how dull and isolated his life is - similar to Jordan.

Todorov Structure (Basic - TBE).

Stage 1 - The characters' relationship is introduced and recognised.

Stage 2 - Disruption caused when Jordan is offered a skate demo off local sponsored skater; relationship with Kate distances.

Stage3 - Kate sees a lack of Jordan, Jordan realises what's happened when he is told to jump a stairset him and Kate always sit on.

Stage4 - Jordan asks to leave the demo, can't due to committments he's already agreed to. Won't be asked again.

Stage5 - Jordan realises it's not worth the hassle and leaves the demo anyway, returns to Kate.

..Dies shortly after.

Brief.

For my film studies project, I am going to make a 3-5 minute long short film based on a film I have made up and enhanced ideas on myself. The idea of my chosen film is based on an underachieving youth that has no main goal in life and does what gets him by. The intention of my film is to make it comical, however, I do understand that there will be some obstacles on the way and there will be difficulties in trying to make people laugh, however, I am willing to take those on and try to achieve something humerous.

Introduction of 'This is Jordan.'

I've decided that the introduction to my film 'This is Jordan.' will be a basic montage of what his weekly life consists of. With ideas for the storyboard still floating around, I've decided to introduce the film with just a black screen and the music 'Heaven is a Halfpipe' by OPM. Following this will be a sot of Jordan's face upside down, unsure of what he's doing there, the fact that his eyes will be open is also essential. After this will be a number of black screens with white writing over the top, such as 'This is the Drug.', which, in this case would be followed by a shot of him skating at the local skatepark. This will continue for a number of shots which will introduce him and establish both characters and settings instantly. After this short montage introduction sequence, the screen will go black again, this time with the title 'This is Jordan.', followed by the first shot of him upside down.

With ideas still being finalised for this introduction, I'll make a storyboard as soon as possible to show exactly how this will go.

Aims and Context of my Film Project.

Film Studies

Aims:

Throughout the planning and production of this coursework, I have a set of aims I wish to achieve in order for this piece of work to reach its highest potential. My project, as a whole, is aimed mainly at the teenage audience, similar to that of the American Pie/Road Trip/Eurotrip series, though, with less sexual references.

I will be including my close friends Jordan and Sofie in this project, reason being, that they are easy to work with, I have close contact with them, I see them on a regular basis and I know they’re 100% reliable.

The main stylistics I will be including in this film project is the use of Mise-en-scene and cinematography. The Mise-en-scene in this film will include such things as Jordan’s ragged look; which represents his lack of care for anything and the cinematography will include such things as the way the two characters are positioned on the screen; I aim to begin by making it look like they’re unconsciously barred from each other without realising i.e. by making them walk either side of a small fence or gate when walking together. Another stylistic I am going to use is the use of sound, more to that of the soundtrack; at the start of the film, I’m going to introduce Jordan’s life in with the song ‘Heaven is a Halfpipe’ by OPM. I think this will be a really good idea as the song basically states that all that’s god in life is skating and even when you die, it’s still all he wants to do, which I think represents Jordan’s life in an effective way.

Context:

For this creative project, I am to produce a short film based on an idea I thought of which is to fit in my chosen genre category of a ‘Gross-out’ coming of age comedy. The initial idea is based on the life of an effortless youth that has no main goal in life and has only two loves to rely on; skateboarding and his ‘close’ friend Kate. When Jordan bumps into local sponsored skater, he is offered the chance of his life, to appear in his own skate demo alongside his new-found friend. However, he doesn’t realise what this will be doing to his and Kate’s relationship and it is only up to him to realise what happens next in his life.
